When your package is out for delivery

Betsy likes to order packages online. It saves her the trip from walking to her local craft store. Sometimes, the local mail carrier gets fed up with Betsy’s overspending habits and ends up keeping the package in the truck 😕

Ordering items online can be a hit or miss. And I suspect that my local post office is fed up with my orders coming in on a daily basis. Hey, I’m trying to save on gas instead of driving to and from the grocery store when buying items in bulk at home 😑

I know there’s some good mail carriers out there who are friendly. But goodness, there are some who just don’t want to do the work. As we’re gearing towards the holiday season, online stores are gearing up for the shopping rush. I see myself spending less during the colder weather (with the exception of food). Because you know, survival reasons.

I think one of my “fondest” (note my sarcasm in quotes) memory on a mail delivery mishap was when years ago, I was looking to make aromatherapy sprays for myself and family / friends. I probably paid around $20 for the amber glass spray bottles and essential oils to arrive within the same day via Amazon. Usually with same day delivery shipping, it’s automatically sent via Lasership. I saw the package was out for delivery for about an hour. Eventually, I received an alert on my phone saying it was delivered. I said to myself, Great! I can finally work on my aromatherapy sprays and save myself money from buying premixed sprays.

Except…it was never delivered.

*plays Law & Order theme music*

After checking the areas in front of my home to see where my package went, I decided to contact the local Lasership base in New York. What should’ve taken less than 10 minutes ended up being the most awkward 45 minutes of my conversation between the representative and the manager of the place:

Me: “Hello, I noticed that the tracking number [reads off number over the phone] shows to be delivered but I never received the package.

Agent: “Um…ok. So sorry about it. It shows that it was delivered to the correct address.”

Me: “If it was, then I would have the package in my possession. Is there a way to get in touch with the driver?”

Agent: “He’s out for the day. He did send us a picture that it was delivered to your address.”

Me: “Strange. As I mentioned, it was not there when I checked my mailbox.”

Agent: [puts me on pause for 5 minutes; resumes chat] “Ok, the driver said it was there at the door.”

Me: “Nope. Not there.”

Agent: [puts me on pause for another 5 minutes; resumes chat] “Ok, the driver is saying that it’s near the door where the garbage can is located.”

Me: “…Nope. Did the driver forget where he delivered?”

[a brief pause]

Agent: “Let me connect you with my manager. Please hold.”

[after waiting 7 minutes]

Manager: “Hi there, I’m sorry that you didn’t receive your package. I want to make sure that we understand your situation carefully. So, just to confirm, you didn’t see it around your house?”

Me: “Yes, that’s correct.”

Manager: [briefly pauses, then speaks] “Well…I’m looking at the picture that our driver showed us. That’s a nice house you have here. Really nice house.”

Me: “Thanks, but that still doesn’t answer my question as to where the package went.”

Manager: [nervously laughs] “Well, I think you may have not looked carefully. After all, it’s a large house. You should’ve seen it in front  of the door.”

Me [feeling frustrated]: “Look, I already said this before with the agent. There is no package. My good guess is that right after the driver took the picture of the package, your driver ended up taking my order and placed it back in its car.”

Manager: [quickly becoming defensive]: “Sorry but that’s not true. Our driver made sure it was delivered.”

Me: “I’m not sure why you’re getting upset when I’m pointing this scenario out. If the driver really took the package, then I hope your driver is all right in learning how to create aromatherapy sprays for witchcraft purposes.”

Manager: [hangs up the phone].

And there you have it, folks. Luckily, I was able to let Amazon know about this experience and they were pretty quick to refund my purchase.

Betsy The Lotus Cow Says – Online Shopping Sometimes Suck

Happy Wednesday, friends! Here’s a fun quote that Betsy would like to share with y’all:

Buying a product with high expectations and perfect reviews only to realise that it doesn’t work for more than 2 days made me distrust online shopping.

😅 I think the quote above pretty much sums up my feelings on my recent online shopping experience.

So on this post, I’ve mentioned that I would try out the knitting machine. And, well…I did! The package arrived last Saturday.

I went with the $50 brand rather than spending $200 since I saw some positive reviews on this product. So far, so good. I posted my experience via my IG stories on that day and was pleasantly surprised how fast the machine worked.

I used up the three yarns that it came with the package and managed to create a scarf. Even with the slight messy start in changing colours when feeding it through the machine, it stayed intact.

Feeling the excitement, I worked on another project in creating a rainbow beanie hat for my son.

The yarn I used was from Caron Simply Soft by Yarninspirations. Probably one of the best yarns I’ve worked with so far in creating a beanie hat. Plus, the weight of the yarn worked perfectly for this machine. Within 30 minutes or so, I created a full sized beanie hat for my son to wear during the colder season when he goes to preschool.

Reading the positive reviews online, I felt sure that I made the right decision. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? So far, the general consensus was that it was a great starter knitting machine for a budget friendly crafted.

(In a narrator voice: Alas, Diana discovered that it was not the case.)

On Tuesday, while I was on my lunch break, I decided to use up the remaining yarn to make a scarf. After casting the stitches, I noticed that the needles were more wobbly than usual. I was also careful in making sure that the working yarn was being threaded with the needle hooks. Needless to say, by the fourth row, I noticed that the stitches dropped. At first, I thought it might be due to setting the tension loosely. After a couple of tries and wasted yarn, I came to the realisation that the knitting machine became defective. It was no longer latching on the working yarn like it used to when I first bought the machine.

And this whole ordeal lasted two days.

As if that wasn’t fun enough, I requested to have UPS pick up the package via Amazon on Tuesday. Today is Wednesday. Not only the UPS Driver left a label on my doorstep, he sped off without picking up my knitting machine. UPS needs to hire better drivers.

Thank goodness for my hubby since he’ll drop it off sometime this week. But yeah…online shopping is a hit or miss. I feel it may get worse now that we’re near the early stages of holiday shopping.

I think it’s a sign that I should be sticking to loom knitting since there’s more pros that outweighs the cons:

  • Less chances of stitches slipping since they’re wrapped on the pegs.
  • Loom knitting tools tend to be more forgiving with the yarn of your choice (i.e. you can either use the bulky or thin yarn).
  • They’re portable.
  • Loom knitting tools can come with various sizes, rather than being stuck to one size.
  • More patterns available for loom knitting tools than with knitting machines.

I should note that I’m usually proactive when doing my research. Unfortunately, it was one of those instances where it was too good to be true. Sometimes, the hand method works better than machines!
