Astrology: Before vs After Discovering Your Natal Chart

Betsy discovered that her natal chart delves more than her Sun sign. So she’s making sure that she’s on top of the upcoming astrological changes.

Illustration made with Procreate.

There was a time that I believed my Sun sign was the only thing it should mattered when I read my horoscopes online and on print. Heck, I remember obsessing over the horoscopes section when I was a subscriber to YM Magazine (*cough* thanks Mom & Dad for letting me read them back in the 1990s).

I discovered my natal chart around 2015. Holy cow, it blew my mind that there were other aspects in my chart that I never realized it existed. Things like knowing your Moon sign, your Rising sign, Venus, Mars, Mercury, etc. It answered my questions as to why I didn’t really feel like a “true Taurus to the core” when I’ve exhibited some more fiery aspects of my personality (in this case, both my Venus and Mercury signs are in Aries).

While I don’t consider myself an astrology expert, I can tell you that there are numerous resources available on learning astrology. I highly recommend checking out Theresa Reed (a.k.a the Tarot Lady) on her Star School section where she delves into astrology that’s perfect for beginners. She also released her new book, Astrology for Real Life, where she provides a no-nonsense guide on discovering your natal chart, understanding the retrogrades in various planets, and much more.

If you’re looking for apps that you want to keep track on the astrological transits, here are my recommendations below:

Time Passages (iOS only; there’s a free and paid version).

Co-Star Astrology (iOS only; free to use).

Sanctuary Astrology (iOS only; free to use; in-app purchases).

Please note that I do not have an Android phone at hand, so if you want to sound off the recommendations on which astrology apps are worth checking out, let me know in the comments below.

What are you thoughts about astrology? Have you discovered your natal chart? I would love to read your responses in the comments section.

Witchy Cow

Happy first day of Autumn / Mabon! My witchy heart feels more alive during this time of year. Seeing the leaves on the ground with the crisp and cool air makes me feel nostalgic.  Betsy is looking forward to posting more tarot card readings on Instagram and Twitter now that we have more time in the day to focus on channeling our messages from the Universe.

For a long time, I always felt that my plush animal cow was a familiar. It’s currently not viable for me to adopt a cat (although I took care of them while growing up). Mostly due to the heart ache that I’ve felt years ago when I lost my beloved childhood pet to cancer. My husband and I found Betsy during our local trip to the mall (which you can interact from the first episode of Moo Times of Betsy here). Recently, I encountered this post that lovingly explains that yes, it is possible to do so.

Most of my work involves healing, protection and boosting creativity. In a nutshell, I’m an arts, crafts and tech bruja. Additionally, I would channel the motherly and sassy energy from Betsy to the readings that I provide for my friends and family members. My husband jokes that Betsy has a mind of her own whenever we have her sitting on top of the other plush animal cows. On certain days, Betsy would tip over (even if she was sitting up perfectly). I recently got a palmistry pillow from Michael’s Craft Store for Betsy to prop herself up when we share the daily tarot card readings on the Instagram account.

The good news is that there’s no slowing down for Betsy as she’s eager to do more witchy work. Samhain will be here soon before you know it. Now, if only I can loom knit a witch’s hat for Betsy to wear…

Hope you’re having a magickal time, my friends. I’ll see you on my next post!

I will also be offering a larger version (2.25 inch) soon for selected designs. On top of the jewellery portion, I’ll also provide mirrors, pinback buttons, clip ons and magnets. More details will be provided soon in a future blog post.

When you don’t eat while using tarot cards

Betsy learned pretty quickly that she shouldn’t do tarot readings on an empty stomach.

Comic made with Procreate App

Happy Friday, friends 👋 hope you’re doing fantastic! I decided to do the webcomic a bit differently. Let me know what you think!

I usually try to eat a full meal before conducting readings. Being hangry while performing a tarot reading is not a fun thing to do.

On the flip side of things – I’m currently working on a secret project that I’m hoping to announce by the end of this year. It’s something that holds dear to my heart and I’m hoping to share this joy with y’all.

I will keep you posted when everything is finalized. Until then, stay udderly awesome!

Betsy The Lotus Cow Says – No Ordinary Cow

Guess Betsy wanted to make this known for the post –

I’m not here to blend with the crowd. I’m no ordinary cow.

So…many of you have wondered if Betsy is an actual cow. She’s actually a plush animal 😂 it’s how I portray her in the illustrations. She’s more of a plush animal familiar (i.e. Betsy’s full of magic). Sometimes, she likes to pull tarot cards and do readings. You can see it when viewing my Instagram stories at @redlotusdesignz. You can also check out her bio under the IG highlights “Meet Betsy” to learn more about her.

In fairness, Betsy reminds me not to be a cookie cutter. Sure, she may look like a cow. But that doesn’t mean she acts like one (sometimes she exhibits cat-like behaviour 🤔). In any case, being your own person and identifying your unique nature can scare others. Some of us may be accustomed to seeing the same set of people with personalities, looks, etc. Some folks want to be part of a clique crowd (think Mean Girls) that extends beyond the high school atmosphere. I see this happen online and offline.

It’s a general reminder that you don’t need to fit in society’s “standards” in order to be accepted. Be true to yourself. Be authentic. Be you. Because no one can’t replicate your existence and your purpose for living.

Here’s to living in your own truth and to the beat of your rhythm.

When your package is out for delivery

Betsy likes to order packages online. It saves her the trip from walking to her local craft store. Sometimes, the local mail carrier gets fed up with Betsy’s overspending habits and ends up keeping the package in the truck 😕

Illustration made with Procreate App.

Ordering items online can be a hit or miss. And I suspect that my local post office is fed up with my orders coming in on a daily basis. Hey, I’m trying to save on gas instead of driving to and from the grocery store when buying items in bulk at home 😑

I know there’s some good mail carriers out there who are friendly. But goodness, there are some who just don’t want to do the work. As we’re gearing towards the holiday season, online stores are gearing up for the shopping rush. I see myself spending less during the colder weather (with the exception of food). Because you know, survival reasons.

I think one of my “fondest” (note my sarcasm in quotes) memory on a mail delivery mishap was when years ago, I was looking to make aromatherapy sprays for myself and family / friends. I probably paid around $20 for the amber glass spray bottles and essential oils to arrive within the same day via Amazon. Usually with same day delivery shipping, it’s automatically sent via Lasership. I saw the package was out for delivery for about an hour. Eventually, I received an alert on my phone saying it was delivered. I said to myself, Great! I can finally work on my aromatherapy sprays and save myself money from buying premixed sprays.

Except…it was never delivered.

*plays Law & Order theme music*

After checking the areas in front of my home to see where my package went, I decided to contact the local Lasership base in New York. What should’ve taken less than 10 minutes ended up being the most awkward 45 minutes of my conversation between the representative and the manager of the place:

Me: “Hello, I noticed that the tracking number [reads off number over the phone] shows to be delivered but I never received the package.

Agent: “Um…ok. So sorry about it. It shows that it was delivered to the correct address.”

Me: “If it was, then I would have the package in my possession. Is there a way to get in touch with the driver?”

Agent: “He’s out for the day. He did send us a picture that it was delivered to your address.”

Me: “Strange. As I mentioned, it was not there when I checked my mailbox.”

Agent: [puts me on pause for 5 minutes; resumes chat] “Ok, the driver said it was there at the door.”

Me: “Nope. Not there.”

Agent: [puts me on pause for another 5 minutes; resumes chat] “Ok, the driver is saying that it’s near the door where the garbage can is located.”

Me: “…Nope. Did the driver forget where he delivered?”

[a brief pause]

Agent: “Let me connect you with my manager. Please hold.”

[after waiting 7 minutes]

Manager: “Hi there, I’m sorry that you didn’t receive your package. I want to make sure that we understand your situation carefully. So, just to confirm, you didn’t see it around your house?”

Me: “Yes, that’s correct.”

Manager: [briefly pauses, then speaks] “Well…I’m looking at the picture that our driver showed us. That’s a nice house you have here. Really nice house.”

Me: “Thanks, but that still doesn’t answer my question as to where the package went.”

Manager: [nervously laughs] “Well, I think you may have not looked carefully. After all, it’s a large house. You should’ve seen it in front  of the door.”

Me [feeling frustrated]: “Look, I already said this before with the agent. There is no package. My good guess is that right after the driver took the picture of the package, your driver ended up taking my order and placed it back in its car.”

Manager: [quickly becoming defensive]: “Sorry but that’s not true. Our driver made sure it was delivered.”

Me: “I’m not sure why you’re getting upset when I’m pointing this scenario out. If the driver really took the package, then I hope your driver is all right in learning how to create aromatherapy sprays for witchcraft purposes.”

Manager: [hangs up the phone].

And there you have it, folks. Luckily, I was able to let Amazon know about this experience and they were pretty quick to refund my purchase.

Got any stories you want to share about your experiences with your local mail carriers? Let me know in the comments!

Betsy the Lotus Cow Says – Change

Happy Monday, friends! Here’s a quote that Betsy would like to share with y’all:

Change is part of the growth cycle. Understand why the change is happening in your life.

Maybe it’s the stereotypical part of my Taurean nature, but I don’t like change. I like to do things in a routine and remain comfortable. Perhaps it’s a flaw on my own end. Or maybe I’m just lazy 😂

In any case, change is a crucial part in our lives. No matter what point in your life you’re currently experiencing, every change is happening for a reason. Some changes are planned. Some changes aren’t.

It’s important to recognise why these changes are happening. Whether if the answers are immediate or at a later time, it will be known one way or another.

Have you experienced a moment in your life where change occurred and had to reflect as to why it happened? I would love to read your responses below 💭
